Toy Cleaner, Yes or No?

{Quick foreword. Foreword for a question? Gosh you have demanding readers. I was going to leave this in your Formspring but it wasn't letting me tell the whole story, so I thought I'd email you instead. Hope that's okay.}

Guys, I did it. I bought my Lelo, inspired in great part by all your sex-positive writing. But when the store clerk asked if I was set for lube & toy cleaner I automatically replied "of course", but it wasn't until I left the store that I realized that was halfway towards a blatant lie. I've always washed my toys with soap and water and didn't even know there was such a thing as cleaner designed specifically for vibrators and the like. (Lube, on the other hand...) So, being that this is my first "high end", proper vibrator, I was wondering how you guys clean and store your arsenal?

Cheers,
Penelope

Hey Penelope!

Old Formspring betrays us, eh? It's really the best option for a question asking service out there, but it really does suck a bit, doesn't it?

Anyway, glad you wrote in, and sorry it took us so long to respond! First off, huge congrats on your first Lelo! We're sure you've had a SIGNIFICANT amount of fun with it already (which model did you buy?).

We clean our toys in a variety of ways, depending on the toy. The metal (N'Joy) or just silicone plug type toys get boiled for a bit to really sanitize them up, while the vibrating toys get a thorough wash with soap and warm water. The toy cleaner, to be honest, is never something we've considered either. Our hunch is that it's likely an up-sell item that isn't TOTALLY needed, but would certainly be good to have. But we've never read anywhere that it's a MUST HAVE. So we stick with our organic, hoity toity soap and give it a good scrub, a good rinse and a firm but loving dry.

As for storage, we have an entire drawer devoted to the toys (we have a LOT of them). They're in bags and boxes and sacks and who knows what else. But they're organized by lubes, condoms, batteries, butt toys, vibes and bondage accessories (we said we had a LOT).

Thanks for the question, and enjoy that Lelo!

  1. Great response. Your drawer sounds like mine. That reminds me, I should use a decent shelf paper in there just to add separation between the bottom of the drawer and the toys. Acids from the wood and chemical treatments can damage over longterm.

    Hmmm.... Maybe I could paint the interior of the drawer with a water based enamel? Special up the toy drawer.

    1. Thanks! And glad you've also put some thought into your drawer! Too special (and expensive) not to give some thought to it.

  4. Ohmygosh I'm on the blog! This was a brilliant and cost-saving answer, Mr. & Mrs. Hoity-Toity soaps. I got the Liv, and yes... it has ruined me for life.

    For the record, I agree with the first Anonymous above: would love to see the storage "unit"!

    1. That you are! Thanks for the lovely question! And super glad to hear that your Lelo is working out for you. Can't beat a well made, well designed toy. We got the Ina recently (review coming soon!) and V is just in LOVE.

      And yeah, we think maybe a post about our drawer will be coming to you real soon.
